A Deceitful Heart

By David Smith May 2, 2010

Inspired at a Gospel Meeting

Text References:

Jer 17:9 “The Heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

Ecc 9:3 “…also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live.”

Ps 7:4 “Lift up your heads,  O ye gates; and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors, and the King of glory shall come in.”

Isa 64:6 “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteous-nesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”

Deceitful and wicked, my heart, that we hear;

To give it to Christ; my filthy nature does appear.

Nothing within ourselves we can genuinely give;

He gave it ALL so our souls may live.

It’s, all total, He gave at the Cross, on the *Hill;

To only accept it, is my greatest thrill.

We receive a new heart when we accept Christ at the *door.

Feeding on His Word, a new life we explore.

He is the way, the truth and the life;

He gives us a new heart, filled by the pure light.

*Hill refers to the finished work of the Cross at Calvary
